Carol Oken marked the millennium by planning a safari for her family and friends. The experience was life changing. Her new-found passion for Africa combined easily with her previous work in the theatre and on environmental issues.
She always had a curiosity of how others lived around the world. She founded Duffle & Compass in 2003 to work closely with others who yearned to experience authentic adventures in Africa.
Carol has made more than 40 trips to Africa and loves collaborating with clients to curate journeys they could never have imagined, and ones where they will make a positive impact.
Grace Oken was 13 years old on the original family and friends safari taken by founder (and mother) Carol Oken, to Tanzania in 2003 that led to the creation of Duffle & Compass.
Grace has a background in organic farming, and enjoys designing honeymoons and trips with a focus on cuisine, sustainability, and wildlife conservation.
As a Travel Advisor for Duffle & Compass Grace has enjoyed adventures to South Africa, Ethiopia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Kenya, Egypt, Madagascar, Tanzania, Republic of Congo, and São Tomé & Príncipe. Her love of travel has also taken her to Central & South America, Europe and Jordan.
Born in Mexico and raised in Germany, Natalia’s love for travel started at a young age. Her solo trip adventures began in college at the University of Texas in Dallas, and in London, UK for a degree in Communications. She has worked in hospitality & tourism in Scotland, Italy and France finding many hidden gems along the way.
At Duffle & Compass her role as a Travel Coordinator goes hand in hand with her attention to detail and her passion for trip planning. Natalia is fluent in Spanish,
German and English and is currently learning French. She resides between her hometown in Mexico and Chicago. Ask about her most recent trip to Japan!
