Classic Kenya
September 30 to October 11, 2010
BOOKING NOW!
Limited to 10 persons
Come to East Africa for a classic safari experience – perfect for first-timers or those who desire a small group experience -- with a focus on elephants, the great wildebeest migration and an interest in the tribal cultures of the areas we will visit.
We’ll begin in Amboseli, an area best known for the most celebrated herds of wild elephants in the world. With Kilimanjaro, the largest free-standing mountain in the world, as our backdrop, it will be an auspicious beginning! Next stop is an oasis in the arid lands of Samburu where our elegant camp is built on the site of author Joy Adamson’s home. You’ll feel “Born Free” in your luxury tent filled with the vibrantly colored fabrics of the local nomadic tribes. We’ll enjoy bush breakfasts along the river and visit a local village when we’re not out tracking lion, giraffe, zebra and buffalo.
We will wing our way to the Masai Mara, where the great wildebeest migration can be seen at this time of year. Over one million herbivores are on the short grass plains, and it’s no surprise that their predators are here too! We’re in for some exciting wildlife viewing! Our family-run camp (since the 1920s) will transport you to the classic “golden age” of safari-going, with a big emphasis on adventure and elegance for discerning travelers. We end in Nairobi with plenty of time to visit the Karen Blixen home, Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage, and a number of artist galleries and arts & crafts shops.

Soarin’ Over Zululand
10 days in South Africa
April 27 to May 6, 2010
We have one opening due to a cancellation!
Limited to 6 persons
South Africa is one of the top tourist destinations in the world -- and with a strong U.S. dollar and direct flights from the U.S.A. – this is the ideal time to visit!
This is a land of plenty – and this itinerary affords you the opportunity to see a fascinating variety of landscapes, a great diversity of wildlife and enjoy new activities each day – including a scenic “air safari” flight over northern KwaZulu-Natal. Our accommodations will be at luxury, award-winning lodges.
Indulge your dreams of tracking big cats and elephants on foot, visiting a traditional Zulu healer, and walking along one of South Africa’s unspoiled beaches. Learn about elephant herd dynamics, the endangered black rhino and where to look for the elusive brown hyena.
Our first stop is in the historic Northwest Province near the Botswana border. Madikwe Game Reserve where the bushveld meets the semi-arid Kalahari. This was the site of Operation Phoenix, the largest translocation of wildlife in Africa. Twenty years later, the wildlife is plentiful. Threatened species like the African wild dog and black rhino, along with the rarely seen brown hyena are found here. The area is rich in history, from Stone Age relics to the tales of famous travelers on this ancient trade route from Cape Town.
For the ultimate contrast, we’ll continue the journey in the Phinda Private Game Reserve where seven distinct habitats shelter an abundance of wildlife. Our private guide will lead us on new adventures each day – game drives, bush walks, sunset cruises, snorkeling, and visiting local villages. The “Soarin’ Over Zululand” scenic flight will give you a bird’s-eye view of the mountains, rivers, wetlands, savanna, forest and coastal dunes. You may spot the black silhouette of whales and dolphins in the Indian Ocean. Step into the traditional world of the Zulu people with an informative excursion to a nearby community.
For those who wish to visit the spectacular city of Cape Town, post-safari excursions can be easily arranged.
