12 days/11 nights

This private safari with wildlife biologist Marc Baker was done October 4-15, 2008 and can be custom-tailored for you.

Suyan Camp: Asilia

This East Africa safari begins at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the roof of Africa.  We’ll take a cultural excursion to a local village before we fly off to the Maasai tribal lands where our first camp awaits.   Our private guide fills our days with walking safaris, night drives and star-gazing, all the while sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for wildlife.  Our journey continues to the endless plains of Serengeti National Park along the Mara River, famous for the wildebeest crossings into Kenya.  We stay in comfortable bush camps with gourmet meals and attentive camp crew.  And then it’s time to wing away to exotic Zanzibar, the spice island, where we’ll enjoy the white sand beaches, warm blue waters and excursions to experience the history, architecture and culture of this famous island.  A journey of a lifetime awaits you.

Day 1    Arrive Kilimanjaro International Airport, Tanzania

We will be met upon arrival and transferred to Ngare Sero Lodge on the slopes of Mount Meru.  This intimate, country estate is located only 30 minutes away. Sitting on the veranda you can see the snows of Kilimanjaro in the distance. Sykes and Colobus monkeys frolic in the trees of the gardens.   We will stay here for the first two nights.  Mulala Village: Cathy Packo

Day 2        Mulala Village

Today we’ll do a cultural excursion to a nearby village on the southern slopes of Mount Meru.  The villagers are subsistence farmers and grow coffee, bananas and vegetables. Suyan Camp operates in the Loliondo private concession area -- east of the Serengeti National Park border – where the nomadic Maasai have small settlements.  Here we will be able to do walking safaris and night drives, activities which are not allowed within the national park.  We will also visit a traditional Maasai community and school. Suyan is an intimate tented camp with all the comforts you’d expect including gourmet food, great wines and a breathtakingly beautiful wilderness setting.  We will stay three nights at Suyan Camp.
