21-day Private Safari Sample Itinerary

Limited to 12 persons

This itinerary can be custom-tailored for your group of 6 to 12 travelers.

Begin your journey at the world famous Ngorongoro Crater before making your way through Maasai lands to your private campsites in the Serengeti.  Each will provide a safe and comfortable base from which to track wildlife during the day and stargaze at night.  A night’s stop at a coffee plantation before you wing off to Zanzibar, the Spice Island, for some cultural explorations in Stone Town.  Next stop is the beach and the warm turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean at Fundu Lagoon, a first class resort to cap off your safari of a lifetime.

Day 1              

Arrive in Dar es Salaam where you will be met by your private charter pilot and transferred by private plane to Ngorongoro.  You will be met at the airstrip by your professional guides and safari vehicles and transferred to the Ngorongoro Serena Lodge where you will overnight.

Day 2              

Braving the cold dawn you will leave the hotel with your guides in Land Cruisers for the winding descent into the Crater searching for flamingo, hippo, lions, elephant and black rhino.  Later the vehicles will climb out of the Crater and head to your private camp located at Moru Kopjes, a fabulous site of rocky outcrops located in the center of Serengeti National Park.  Discuss the next day’s adventure over sundowners around the campfire. Enjoy a late dinner before retiring to be lulled to sleep by the sounds of Africa.

 

Day 3-6           

Game drives from camp will explore this prime habitat for cheetah, lion and leopard.  Accommodations at your private camp.

 

Day 7              

Rise early to allow the crew to move your camp into the Southern Serengeti while you game drive on the way to the Serena Seronera Hotel where you will overnight.

 

Day 8              

Depart the hotel after breakfast and travel through spectacular open plain country on the way to your second base camp in the Ndutu Woodlands.

Days 9-12       

Spend your days here in the heart of the Great Migration tracking elephants, lions and cheetah.  Evenings bring starry skies and slumber in your private campsite.

 

Day 13            

Depart Ndutu airfield on your private charter flight to Arusha.  Transfer to Mountain Village.

 

Day 14            

Spend the day touring a coffee farm, seeing a bit of the city of Arusha or Arusha National Park.  Accommodations at Mountain Village

 

Day 15             Stone Town Market: Carol Oken

Transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport for your flight to Zanzibar, a beautiful, unspoiled island located 22 miles off the coast of Tanzania that was once the center of the East African slave trade.  It is known as the “spice island.”  The Arabic architecture of Zanzibar and Old Stone Town are exceptionally beautiful. Visit Old Stone Town in the afternoon.  Dine on the rooftop terrace of the hotel. Accommodation at the Zanzibar Serena Inn.

 

Day 16            

Full day of sightseeing in Zanzibar including a Spice Plantation tour.  Dinner at select restaurant.  Accommodation at the Zanzibar Serena Inn.

 

Day 17            

Transfer to Zanzibar Airport to depart on a scheduled morning flight to Pemba

Island.  Upon arrival at Chake Chake airport, you will be driven to Wesha Port where you will board a speedboat for a 25 minute ride to Fundu Lagoon.  Designer tents on wooden decks are set under thatched roofs.  Each room has a view of the sea.  Overnight at Fundu Lagoon.

Day 18-20       

Fundu Lagoon offers a variety of water activities including water-skiing, sailing, canoeing.   Expeditions are available to the nearby mangrove ecosystem and you can walk at low tide along the sand flats.   Accommodations at Fundu Lagoon.

 

Day 21            

Depart Pemba Island on your scheduled flight to Dar es Salaam.  Transfer to the Sheraton Royal Palm Hotel for the night.

 

Day 22            

Transfer to Dar es Salaam Airport for your departure home.
