Lukula Selous

This 300,000-acre private photographic safari sanctuary is located in the southern section of the Selous Game Reserve.   This is wild Africa and one of the very few places for those who yearn to experience an expedition more like the old days of the early explorers. Lukula Selous river crossing: Dana Allen

The camp accommodates a maximum of eight people who have the exclusive privilege to explore this vast wilderness. The game is plentiful and includes elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and African wild dog.  Activities are not done on a set schedule, but rather depend on what is happening at the moment.  Your expert guides will take you on day and night game drives, guided walks to track wildlife, kayaking, canoeing, and portered fly camping and sleep outs.

The four luxurious and spacious en-suite tents are spreadLukula Selous tent: Dana Allen out along the banks of the Luwego River under the shade of giant fig and sausage trees.  The camp operates on solar power and there are no mobile phone networks. Lukula Wing Safaris are offered from June through January with flights departing Dar es Salaam on Sundays and Wednesdays.  This three or four night safari can be easily combined with other locations for a complete Tanzania itinerary.

This retreat has been loved by safari buffs for years. Set in the northern Selous Game Reserve on the white, sandy banks of the Rufiji River, Sand Rivers offers luxury, comfort and exclusivity.  Each of the open-fronted cottages has an amazing view.  Complete with en-suite bathrooms with flush toilets and hot showers, the stone and thatch cottages provide the perfect place to be lulled to sleep each night by the sounds of the river.  There are five standard rooms and two larger suites with king-size beds, sitting rooms and private plunge pools. The accommodations here were renovated in 2007.

 

Sand Rivers Selous Bedroom:Nomad TanzaniaActivities include game drives, elephant bush walks, rhino tracking, fishing, boating, birding and bush picnics. Fly camping is also offered here. You can experience life in the bush sleeping on a bedroll under spacious mosquito nets. Hot bucket showers and short drop toilets are set up behind the fly camp. Your camp staff prepares and serves your meals including a candlelit dinner.

The Rhino House is the “honeymoon” house at Sand Rivers Selous.  The one-bedroom cottage is gloriously romantic and private.  Set high up above the Sand Rivers the cottage looks way out over the Rufiji River and surrounding woodlands.  The spacious house includes a king-sized bed, en-suite bathroom, sitting room, plunge pool and private dining area where meals will be served to you at your pleasure.  A private guide and vehicle is on hand to take you out for daily adventures. Sand River Selous:Nomad Tanzania

Sand Rivers is generally closed for much of April and May. 

 

Kiba PointKiba Point Bedroom: Nomad Tanzania

This luxury lodge, is set on the banks for the Rufiji River, just down stream from Sand Rivers Selous.  It is booked on an exclusive basis only.  The four spacious, stone and thatch cottages are raised up on platforms above the river line.  The elegant interiors include bathrooms with hot and cold running water, flush toilets and indoor and outdoor showers.  There are private plunge pools to cool off in the heat of the day and a large swimming pool in the main area.  Kiba Point plunge pool

This is the perfect base for a private safari group of up to 10 persons in the Selous.  Children aged 12 years and older are welcome at Kiba Point.  Activities can be arranged for the group’s pleasure.  Private guides and vehicles are available for game drives, guided walks, birding, boating, fishing and fly camping.    Kiba Point is closed during April and May.
