Matemwe, Zanzibar

Matemwe is perched on a coral rock, surrounded by the white sand beaches of Zanzibar.  Situated opposite the Mnemba atoll, this is a spectacular place for diving and snorkeling.  The lodge consists of 12 beautiful suites, built from local materials and surrounded by a lush tropical garden. Each suite has a private veranda with hammocks, providing the perfect spot to look out at the Indian Ocean. Matemwe Retreat opened in January, 2007 just north of the main lodge with three luxury villas. Local fishermen deliver fresh crab, lobster and fish to the kitchen on a daily basis.

Mnemba Island Lodge, Mnemba

The perfect post-safari excursion is Mnemba, the private island just off the tip of Zanzibar in the Indian Ocean.  Each of the ten split-level, en-suite bandas are secluded in the tropical beach forest.  You know you’re in paradise when you realize that staff and guests are the only humans on the island. Activities include scuba-diving, snorkeling, kayaking, fly fishing and walks on the pristine beaches.

2008 - Named #4 on Bridal Magazine’s list of Top 100 Things to do for a Wedding; featured on Condé Nast Traveler’s Gold List for the best hotels in the world; and featured as one of the ten best beaches in the world by The Telegraph.
