The property was restored in the early 1990s and is now a sanctuary to many endangered species of indigenous plants and animals.  Rare Cape Mountain zebra now roam in the company of other creatures revered in Bushman mythology such as the eland and gemsbok.   Each spring, nature celebrates her rebirth here with extravagant flower displays transforming the dramatic sandstone landscapes into a fantasy world of intense colour.  The reserve is also well-known for the more than 130 San Bushman rock paintings.  These ancient messages in the rock provide a glimpse of stone-age culture, and of our own origins in Africa.

Koro Lodge at night: Bushmans Kloof

This Relais & Chateaux property is a unique retreat in the midst of 18,500-acre wildlife and Fynbos reserve.  The raw beauty of the wind-sculpted landscape of sandstone rock formations can be explored with specialist guides.  Activities include sunset nature drives, morning rock art excursions, hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, swimming, fly-fishing, archery or croquet on the lawns.  Bushmans Kloof provides a perfect retreat for painting, writing and photography.  There are presentations about the San artifacts and botanical significance of the reserve.

Suite at Bushmans Kloof

There are only 16 rooms, which sets the stage for a private hideaway.  There are luxury rooms and suites in the main lodge.  All feature en-suite bathrooms with separate bath and shower, air conditioning, under-floor heating and well-stocked mini-bar and private patio.  The Koro Lodge is perfect for families with two master suites and an upstairs loft that sleeps four children.

In keeping with the high standards and tradition of Relais & Chateaux, the gourmet dining at Bushmans Kloof is crafted from the finest and freshest local ingredients, making it an art in taste, aromas and textures.

Guests are encouraged to enjoy the botanical gardens, spa, fitness center, four outdoor swimming pools, library and the Rudner Collection of Bushman artifacts.
