Distinctive Namibia
7 Day Sample Itinerary
This flying safari encompasses the best attributes of Namibia: the dramatic dunes of Sossusvlei, the fascinating topography of Damaraland and the enormous hidden Hartmann Valley in the far north. This
itinerary focuses on the amazing contrasts to be found in this wonderful country – the red dunes and pale pans of the Namib Desert, the rocky outcrops and elephants of Damaraland and the oasis of the Kunene River surrounded by mountains and plains. Add to this the solitude, the desert-adapted wildlife that could be encountered, visiting the Himba people – one of the last true nomads in Africa - and the wide open spaces, and you will experience a journey that is truly distinctive.
We recommend adding a night or two at the exclusive 30,000-hectare Ongava Game Reserve which adjoins Etosha National Park. Activities include tracking white rhino on foot, day and night wildlife viewing drives and walks. This itinerary also combines easily with a Botswana or South Africa itinerary.

Distinctive Namibia - Detailed Itinerary
Days 1 & 2
Depart from Windhoek for a one-hour flight to spend two nights exploring Sossusvlei, staying in Kulala Wilderness Reserve, which provides convenient access to the splendor of the towering red dunes of the Namib. Start with a morning guided game drive to the spectacular dunes of Sossusvlei Kulala Wilderness Reserve -- home to all forms of desert wildlife near the spectacular sights of Sossusvlei and Namib Naukluft Park. The emphasis here is on the smaller desert fauna, spectacular scenery and the incredible night sky. Larger desert-adapted wildlife such as ostrich, springbok and gemsbok flourish here with carnivores such as bat-eared fox, Cape fox, cheetah and black-backed jackal.
Days 3 & 4
A scenic three-hour flight over the Namib Desert provides a different view of the desert and the Skeleton Coast’s spectacular topography, before deviating inland to northern Damaraland for two nights. Leaving the sandy dunes you will make your way to the ancient rock-strewn landscape of the Torra Conservancy. This private concession supports a diverse complement of arid-adapted wildlife, including several herds of Namibia’s acclaimed ‘desert-adapted’ elephants, and healthy numbers of Hartmann’s mountain zebra, southern giraffe, gemsbok and springbok in a landscape dotted with equally interesting flora.
Days 5 & 6
Fly by light aircraft to the vast Marienfluss Conservancy in the extreme north-west of Namibia for a two-night stay at Serra Cafema Camp. This intimate camp, whose design pays homage to the Himba people, is scenically poised along the lush banks of the Kunene River, in total contrast to the surrounding desert. Serra Cafema is one of the most remote and surreal destinations in Africa. The Kunene River is a rejuvenating band of green surrounded by a lunar-like landscape of the Namib and the Cafema mountain range to the north. Informative nature drives and carefully guided quad-bike excursions through the fragile dunes allow guests to experience this area in its unbridled glory. The utmost care is taken to tread lightly and preserve the unique and delicate habitats of this landscape. Boating on the Kunene River provides guests with the opportunity to venture through the riverside oasis with resident crocodiles and waterbirds. Walking in the remote mountain and river valleys is also a highlight, as is a visit to a Himba settlement. The fairy circle phenomenon is also best viewed in the Hartmann Valley.
Day 7
After a delicious breakfast clients catch a return flight to Windhoek for their onward journey.
