Etosha National Park

Etosha National Park is Namibia's premiere game viewing destination. Located in the northern part of the country, it is sometimes called the "land of mirages" because of the huge Etosha Pan which looks like an endless expanse of silvery sand. White Rhino: Wilderness Safaris

This is one of Africa's largest game parks being nearly the size of Switzerland. Large herds of plains game concentrate around the waterholes in the dry season making for exciting game viewing. Species that can be seen year-round include elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, springbok, gemsbok, kudu and the diminutive Damara dik-dik. Bird life is also good with ostrich and raptors in abundance. Local specials include the short-toed rockthrush, Hautlaub's francolin, rockrunner, Rüppell's parrot, white-tailed shrike and chestnut weaver.

Ongava Private Game Reserve

The private Ongava Game Reserve shares a common boundary with Etosha National Park. The reserve has 75,000 acres and is one of the few places in Southern Africa where you can see both black and white rhino. For those who enjoy close wildlife encounters, tracking white rhino on foot with an armed guide is a highlight not to be missed. Ongava Game Reserve also has a good population of lion, eland, Hartmann's mountain zebra, black-faced impala and a number of other antelope species. Wilderness Safaris operates three camps in the reserve.

This is the ideal place from which to base your activities when visiting Etosha National Park. The lodge has 14 air-conditioned brick, rock and thatch chalets, each with en-suite facilities.  There are two honeymoon suites and one family suite. Ongava Lodge was listed on the Condé Nast Traveler Gold Reserve List in 2005 and remodeled in 2008.  The main dining area has a view of the camp's waterhole where animals come to drink year-round. There is also a hide near the waterhole where you can get a close-up view. Activities include day and night game drives, guided walks and cooling off in the swimming pool.

This intimate camp is perfect for a group of six persons traveling together. There are three spacious, air-conditioned suites, each with a private plunge pool, en-suite bathroom, outdoor shower and views of the waterhole. Situated along the southern boundary of the park, the camp is built on the crest of a hill, providing wonderful views onto the plains below. Guests share a dedicated guide, ensuring the optimum nature experience at one of Africa's great wilderness destinations.

This vintage-styled tented camp has eight luxury, en-suite tents including one family unit. All are have overhead fan, flush toilet and open air, hot shower. Double door fronts allow views of the bush and waterhole. Meals are enjoyed in the thatched dining area that overlooks an active waterhole. Activities include game drives into the Okaukuejo area of Etosha where lion, elephant, cheetah, gemsbok, springbok, and hartebeest can be seen. In addition, hides and walks are offered on the private reserve. Ongava has resident white rhino and black rhino, allowing guests staying at Ongava the unique opportunity to see both of these charismatic species.

June, 2008 Update:   All tents have been replaced by larger units set on low wooden decks, matching the main area which was rebuilt in 2007.
