Safari Options

Duffle and Compass works closely with you to determine which type of safari or mix of elements will best suit you. We consider when you want to travel and where you'd like to go. We discuss your comfort level and your budget range. And we talk about your specific interests and activities that you may wish to enjoy on this trip. We personalize each itinerary. Here are some ideas to consider:

Scheduled Departures - These planned routes take advantage of the seasons best offerings and are often an economical win for you because there are fixed costs for the provider. You can join a small group (generally 8 but not more than 12) and experience a route with a variety of permanent tented camps, lodges and trail camps that are set for you in remote wilderness areas.

Private Safaris - If you have a group of friends or family wanting to safari together, this option provides an intimate and memorable experience. The safari is customized to fit the group's wishes. Depending on how many guests are in your group, we can sometimes arrange the exclusive use of a permanent camp or small lodge.

Mobile Tented Safaris - This classic-style safari puts you in a very comfortable camp that is set up in a remote wilderness area to serve as your base from which to set out and explore. You are serviced by an experienced crew and guides who are very familiar with the area. Many times you will stay in a lodge for one night while your camp moves to a different location.

Private Mobile Tented Safari - This option is for those travelers who want to travel with their group exclusively.

Fly-in Safaris - In many places the best way to travel from one place to the next is to fly. Roads are many times nothing more than tracks and distances between camps can be far. Flying allows you to cover much more territory on your safari and view game and terrain along the way!

Private Guides - Those with a special interest can arrange for a specialist such as a ornithologist, biologist, photography or folklore expert to accompany them for all or part of their safari. Sometimes clients like to have one guide who meets them upon arrival and stays with them for their entire safari.

Extensions - Destinations and activities can be added on to your safari to suit your interests. Whether you want to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, lie on a white sandy beach, or experience city life, we can arrange pre- or post-safari extensions.

Duffle & Compass Exclusive Safaris - Each year Duffle & Compass offers one or two exclusive safaris for small groups of adventurers. These are private safaris designed with a specific focus and escorted by company founder Carol Oken. These safaris often feature private guides, special speakers and community visits.
